The Warranty Insights

Did you know that 4 out of 5 used car buyers don't ask if the car they are about to buy has been subject to a manufacturer recall.

28 September 2016

If buying from a used car dealer they can use the HPI Safety Recall Check that protects consumers against buying a car with a fault or default.

Toyota, Honda, Vauxhall, BMW and Fiat top the list of car manufacturers with the most car recalls over the last five years, it's a staggering number but in recent months nearly 4 million vehicles have been recalled.

So what is a car recall, a car recall is what happens when the DVSA, car manufacturers and other regulatory bodies decide that a vehicle suffers with a safety-related defect. When this happens, manufacturers alert their customers, and usually complete remedial work free of charge at dealerships.

With one in ten unrepaired recalled vehicles on the UK's roads, safety must be paramount for customers looking to invest in a new set of wheels. The good news is that manufacturers offer an unlimited time for those repairs, meaning that second or third owners can still get a recalled vehicle fixed at no charge.

Comfort can be found in that the UK's automotive industry boasts one of the highest recall and repair success rates across the world. Since 2011, over 6 million cars on the UK have been returned to dealers due to faults, and repaired free of charge by manufacturers.

If you wish to do the check yourself then we suggest going to https://hpicheck.com/recall-check the HPI Recall Check is the only check that provides recall information on a specific vehicle using your vehicle registration number.

Another good way of looking for this information is to visit https://www.gov.uk/check-if-a-vehicle-has-been-recalled you won't be able to enter your registration but will be able to do a search on your specific manufacturer and model.

We suggest protecting yourself from making a costly mistake, it's easy to do so ask your dealer or do it yourself.
